Restored Sash Windows – St Vincent’s de Paul School, Marino

Here’s some history for you where the Bolger past met the Bolger present!

WJ Bolger built the St Vincent’s de Paul school in Marino in the late 1920’s (this was the time when WJ Bolger was owned by our grandfather) so all of the windows, doors, shutters, etc, would have been made in our old workshop in Ardee Street, in the Liberties.

When Paul visited the school, he got the feeling that maybe even some of the old desks and the like may have been made in the old Bolger workshop many, many years ago!

In 2017 we won the contract to renovate and upgrade the original windows to the front and sides of the building. When we went in to view the work for the contract tender, we were delighted to find that all of our grandfather’s work had stood the test of time as most of them were in fantastic condition.

We took out the sliding sashes, repaired the frame ends where required, and stripped and repainted the frames. The existing sashes were sanded/stripped inside and out and fully repainted. Old putty was renewed as required, and any damaged glass was also replaced.

We then re-fitted the sashes into the existing frames on new sash cords. We also installed new draught-proofing and adjusted the weights. And as it was a school, we added new restrictors to prevent children from opening the bottom sash up too high.

These photos were kindly provided to us by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage

New and Restored Sash Windows – Sligo

We repaired some of the existing sash windows in this house in Sligo, and we replaced others that were past the point of being restored with new, bespoke sash windows. However try as we might, some of the residents were determined to photo bomb every one of our photos, but we didn’t mind and we think they’re two of our handsomest clients!

Cabinteely House

We were hired to give the sash windows in Cabinteely House a little tlc! We fully repaired and draught-proofed the sash windows to improve the insulation and to ensure they last for many more years. So if you ever join one of the tours of Cabinteely House, then you can admire our work!

New sash windows – Benincasa, Blackrock

This is Benincasa School on Mount Merrion Avenue, Blackrock, where we stripped and restored the sash window frames.

We then made bespoke, new double-glazed sashes which we then installed in the repaired frames.

Once the new sashes were installed, we painted both the frames and windows.

Bay Sash Window – Ranelagh

These beautiful bay sash windows in Ranelagh needed to be both restored and replaced. The frames were still in excellent condition and only needed some repair work, which we completed.

We then installed new, double-glazed sash windows complete with draft-proofing.

Finally attached the new, polished brass fittings, and then finished with hand-painting the sash windows and the frames.

New and Repaired Sash Windows – Merrion Square

The owners of this private home in Merrion Square hired us to repair and replace their existing sash windows. Some of the windows were still in good condition, so we were able to repair and restore them. Other windows were too damaged and so we made new, bespoke sash windows that were identical to the windows that had to be replaced to ensure that the period style of the house looked as it did when it was first built.

Windowframe Restoration with New Sashes – Phibsboro

Our client wanted to improve the insulation of the windows in their house, without having to replace their existing period, sash windows.

We stripped and repaired their sash window frames. Their sashes couldn’t be repaired, so we made new, bespoke sashes with highly-efficient, tempered vacuum glass. Once the frames were repaired and the sashes were installed, we painted them both to our high standard.

Now their home is much warmer and they didn’t have to compromise on the beauty of their sash windows!

Sash Windows – Booterstown

For this client in Booterstown, we restored the window frames and installed new sash windows in the frames.

The frames were stripped and repaired. The new sash windows were installed using Pilkington glass, and then we carefully hand-painted both the windows and the frames.
